Quicktime on Safari – Question Mark
Ok, I don’t know what it is with my OS X install lately after installing OS update 10.5.4 but things seem to be broken left and right. Besides the trash issue in a previous post, Quicktime movies will not play in Safari – but they do play in Firefox. I updated to the latest Quicktime (7.5) and still no go after a restart. After trawling through numerous support forums, this is what worked for me:
- Navigate to the “/Library/Internet Plug-Ins” folder
- Delete the “QuickTime Plugin.webplugin” file
- Restart Safari
Go to http://www.apple.com/trailers to test.

Hmmm, some Quicktime tutorials on DVD (dvCreators.net Final Cut Express Foundations, to be exact) don’t appear to play properly — I can’t seem to get it to play, something totally is screwy with my Quicktime installation, and everything I have tried does not fix it. No, it is not the Quicktime Flash thing, I tried.
What “fixes” it however, is creating a totally new user account, and running it there. Go figure?
Same issues here, almost. Running 10.5.8 on a 1.33 PB G4. All latest updates applied, also have iLife and iWork 09 installed. Flash works okay in Firefox, but not in Safari – says I don’t have a plugin, etc. Actually, it seems related to the quicktime plugin plist, as my Mail attachments all have the QT icon only – though I can QuickLook them okay… ?!
I’ll try your idea, I think I may have tried it already, but I’ve already spent way too much time troubleshooting this problem, I may just Erase and Install if this keeps up – my fear? It won’t fix the problem.
